Behind the Cover

This article originally appeared in the Summer 2024 issue of Art with Altitude.

Perry-Mansfield Performing Arts School and Camp is known for iconic photographs of dancers. Most early images of the camp were taken by Portia Mansfield, including the black and white image of Harriette Ann Gray on the cover of this issue.

Art with Altitude worked with photographer Brooke Welch to capture dancer David Keingatti in a pose that would pair the past with the present and show the incredible work Perry-Mansfield continues to do. The shoot was executed under the direction of Chris Compton and Tammy Dyke-Compton, co-directors of dance, and in collaboration with Joe Haines, executive director of Perry-Mansfield Camp.

Barb King brought Harriette Ann Gray and David Keingatti together in a timeless image of dance and hope.
